AI & HUMANITY

Preparing together for a changing world

The book and its purpose

How should humanity prepare?

Artificial intelligence is changing how we learn, work, communicate and make decisions. It may open new possibilities, but its benefits and burdens will not necessarily be shared equally.

Our forthcoming book AI & HUMANITY: A Journey Together — A Journey to the Future considers these changes for ordinary readers, from the evolution of intelligence to the transformation of work and human life, practical preparation, and the future of humanity.

AI should expand human possibilities without compromising human safety, dignity, inclusion and shared prosperity.

Chapter 4, Meeting the Challenges of AI — From Awareness to Action, asks how awareness can become practical preparation. This website begins that conversation by focusing on people whose skills, livelihoods or opportunities may be affected.

Author’s perspective

A Message from the Author

Why I wrote AI & HUMANITY

For decades, I have worked in industry and witnessed how technology changes the way people produce, learn and earn a living. Artificial intelligence represents a new and potentially far-reaching stage of that journey. Its possibilities are extraordinary, but so are the questions it raises for ordinary people.

What happens to someone whose skills no longer match the work available? How do young people prepare for careers that are changing before they begin? How can families, schools, employers and governments ensure that progress does not leave large sections of society behind?

I wrote AI & HUMANITY to bring these questions into a wider public conversation. This is not a book against technology. It is a call to prepare for technology thoughtfully—with practical action, informed judgment and respect for human dignity.

The larger goal of AI development must be to advance human progress while respecting a clear Lakshman Rekha—a boundary defined by human safety, dignity, inclusivity, fairness and shared prosperity.

My hope is that readers will come away not simply more aware of AI, but better prepared to live and work alongside it.

Introducing the Book

AI & HUMANITY

A Journey Together — A Journey to the Future

Towards Superintelligence · The Evolution of Humanity

How should humanity prepare when intelligence is no longer exclusively human?

AI & HUMANITY is a forthcoming book for general readers, professionals, parents, educators, employers and policymakers. It follows the evolution of intelligence from humanity’s earliest tools to today’s AI systems, then examines how increasingly capable machines may reshape work, daily life and the future of society.

The book’s central argument is that greater technological capability must be matched by greater human wisdom. It asks how AI can extend human opportunity without weakening agency, fairness or dignity—and offers practical approaches to help individuals and institutions respond.

Five chapters

Inside AI & HUMANITY

Chapter 1 — The Evolution of Intelligence

From early human ingenuity and civilisation to computing and modern AI, this chapter places artificial intelligence within the longer history of humanity’s quest to extend its abilities.

Chapter 2 — AI and the Transformation of Work

AI may change tasks, occupations and career pathways in different ways. This chapter explores the changing workplace, new opportunities, the risks of disruption and the importance of preserving routes for young people to learn and advance.

Chapter 3 — AI and the Transformation of Human Life

Beyond employment, AI is entering education, family life, communication and decision-making. The chapter considers what technology can assist with—and where human relationships, independent thought and judgment remain essential.

Chapter 4 — Meeting the Challenges of AI

The book turns from understanding to action: identifying those at risk of being left behind, encouraging adaptable skills and outlining practical transition approaches for workers, families, employers, educators and public institutions.

Chapter 5 — Future of Humanity with AI

This chapter considers possible futures with more capable AI, including the prospect of superintelligence. It distinguishes emerging evidence from uncertainty and argues for human oversight, accountable governance and international cooperation.

Chapter 4

A Special Focus: Better Prepared

No one should be left without a pathway forward merely because technology has moved ahead.

A particular concern of AI & HUMANITY is the person whose livelihood, work or prospects may be disrupted by AI. Awareness is only the first step. Meaningful preparation also requires accessible learning, practical guidance, responsible employer decisions and supportive public policy.

Our guiding message is simple: Better Prepared—not against AI, but for life with AI.

Chapter 4 in practice

From concern to a pathway forward

1. Understand the change

Identify which tasks are changing and which human strengths remain important. Avoid assuming every occupation will disappear.

2. Explore realistic options

Consider adjacent skills, supervised AI tools, retraining, apprenticeships and local employment opportunities.

3. Share responsibility

Employers, educators, communities and governments must help make transitions practical, affordable and dignified.

These are discussion principles, not guaranteed employment outcomes or individualized professional advice.
